| WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ENTIRE TOWN STARTS BREATHING MUSIC? |
| For one week, music takes over the town of Pelt. Choirs rehearse in school buildings. Brass players warm up in the streets. Percussion echoes across public squares. Around breakfast tables, conversations move between languages, cultures and musical traditions. Young musicians who have never met before begin sharing far more than performances. That atmosphere has shaped the European Music Festival for Young People for 75 years. From 4 to 10 May 2027, EMJ will celebrate its 75th anniversary in Pelt, Belgium, bringing together youth choirs, orchestras, bands and mixed vocal-instrumental ensembles from across Europe and beyond. Throughout the week, ensembles perform for international juries, attend workshops and concerts, discover each other and experience music together in an atmosphere that is both musically ambitious and genuinely welcoming. Many conductors return year after year for exactly that reason.EMJ is centred not on competition, but on artistic growth, cultural exchange and shared experience. At a time when so much of young people’s lives happens online, spending several days making music together in the same place feels more meaningful than ever. For many young musicians, EMJ becomes an experiences they carry with them long after the festival ends. Whether you already know EMJ or would be discovering it for the first time, we would be delighted to welcome your ensemble to Pelt in May 2027 for this special anniversary edition. |
