Among the winners from previous years who have successfully launched their international careers through participation in this competition are renowned conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Lahav Shani, and Kahchun Wong. The winner will receive€30,000, the runner-up €20,000, and the third-place candidate €10,000.

A unique hallmark of The Mahler Competition is the presence of a prestigious international jury throughout the entire event in Bamberg, closely observing every round in person. From the very first round, candidates work with the full Mahler Orchestra of the Bamberg Symphony, an exceptional opportunity rarely found in conducting competitions. The competition stands out not only for its artistic integrity but also as the most highly endowed conducting competition in the world. This year, for the first time, up to 24 candidates will be invited to Bamberg – more than ever before.Another new feature: the final round is now divided into two parts: an individual extended 2.5-hour rehearsal with the orchestra, followed by a public concert performance on July 3rd, where the three finalists will compete on stage.More than a competition, it’s a vibrant meeting place for outstanding young conductors from across the globe. All participants are encouraged to stay until the very end, exchange ideas, receive direct feedback from the jury, and grow as artists – together.
