1.) impuls Academy . Registration has started …

We would hereby like to draw your attention to the 14^th international Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music 2025, running from February 17^th – 28^th, 2025 in Graz, Austria. Aside from composers, we will this time welcome string quartets and other young chamber music formations and ensembles and also offer coaching for electronic musicians and vocalists. For individual musicians coaching for violin, viola, cello, double bass as well as saxophone, piano and percussion is provided.

Aside from individual coaching, the Academy is once more holding lots of Special Programs such as Intermedia Collaboration, Team Composition, Digital Dialogues, Speculative Sound Synthesis – just to name a few – as well as varied calls for scores, reading sessions,…, and a multitude of discourse programs.

Also in 2025, the Academy is interwoven with the impuls Festival, offering a platform for presentation also for young artists on spot.

1.) impuls international Composition Competition

By May 31st, 2024 application will start for a new edition of the international impuls Composition Competition. Conditions and Application form will thus be published by May 31st.

Every second year impuls commissions new works from young composers selected by a jury. Subsequently these composers are invited to take part in the impuls Composition Workshop in Vienna and Graz – where their new works are collectively rehearsed and discussed extensively with musicians of world-class ensembles such as Klangforum Wien –, as well as to the premieres of their new pieces within the impuls Academy and Festival in Graz. 

The call for this year´s competition runs from May 31st - October 31st, 2024 and will lead to commissions to be premiered in 2027.
